Some might call Ascension a coffee shop. In terms of ambience, we are. But, more holistically, we think of ourselves as a farm-to-table restaurant and wine bar that LEADS WITH A COFFEE FOCUS. We work very hard to be very good at what we do – to bring the best ingredients and creative innovation to every cup and every plate.
Coffee excites us. It is complex like wine, communal like beer, but habitual like water. For most of us, we drink coffee every day, usually first thing, before all our wheels are spinning at full speed. Same time, same place, same recipe. So, we consider our role in that ritual to be a distinct and special privilege. We feel the same about the farmers we support. Approximately twenty pairs of hands touch our coffee before it arrives at the Ascension roastery. Twenty people have done an exquisite job ensuring that our coffee is the highest quality it can be. We take on a responsibility to honor that coffee and its producers – roasting, blending, and brewing it to be the best that it can be. And with all the inherent complexities in each bean, that’s a very exciting quest. We believe the coffee we sell is excellent. We want you to be able to start, end, and speckle your day with excellence.
Our full-scale, innovative, farm-to-table menu is what most sets us apart from other coffee shops. We see food as more than an accoutrement for our lattes or an afterthought to cover mealtime. In an effort to bring excellence to all that we do, Ascension invests in a world-class, professionally-trained culinary team who are inventing unique versions of simple foods: sandwiches, salads, charcuterie boards, pastas, and more. Whether its breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, or your afternoon snack, we want to provide the highest quality flavor experience for everything you taste at Ascension. That’s what it is all about – being the everyday, all-times-of-day, neighborhood destination.
Our chef is constantly experimenting with new flavors and ingredients. You will notice seasonal changes on our menu that will vary across cafes. To gather a sense of our featured flavors, please see the assortment of current dishes listed below. Please note that while we accommodate food restrictions or allergies, modifications are politely discouraged.
Breakfast is serious business and we treat it as such. After all, it is the most important meal of the day and often our first encounter with food since daybreak. So we are honored when you share it with us. In the spirit of awakening the taste buds with exciting flavors and soothing them with familiar ones, we have created a morning menu that features fresh takes on old-time favorites:
- Avocado Toast
- Croque Madame Eggs Benedict
- Smoked Salmon Hash
- Bacon and Leek Frittata
- Ricotta and Berry Hotcakes
- Orange Scented French Toast
- House-made Granola and Yogurt
We created Ascension to be a meeting place. And a lot of meet-ups happen over lunch. We wanted to create dishes that are equally delicious and nutritious, with a global yet local feel. These unique flavors are transmitted through simple, age-old vessles: the sandwich, the salad, the meat and cheese board. And thus, our lunch menu was born and according to this vision, it is routinely adapted. Here’s a peek at some of our favorites:
- Soppresatta and Fig Panini
- Tomato Mozzarella and Basil Pesto Panini
- Lamb Meatball Sandwich
- Smoked Salmon B.L.T.
- Kale and Baby Spinach Salad
- Chicken Caesar
- Seared Tuna, Arugula and Truffle Aioli Salad
When the clock strikes 5:00, we dim the lights, uncork the bottles, and feature new recipes in addition to some classics you saw at lunchtime. We seek to create an ambiance that is warm and welcoming, classic and elegant. Our goal for our dinner dishes is the same, inspiring our cheese boards, staple entrees, desserts, and seasonal specials:
- Burrata and Tomato Jam
- Hot Melty Brie
- House Smoked Salmon
- Classic Charcuterie Board
- Truffle Mac & Cheese
- Coffee-Rubbed Wagyu Steak
- Chipotle Chicken Penne
- Chocolate Coffee Gluten Free Cake
- Maple Caramel Bread Pudding
- Orange Cardamom Crème Brulee
We won’t judge you for eating dessert for breakfast, having coffee before bedtime, or starting the day with a mimosa. In fact, we encourage those things. We like to do them too. So come join us for a hand-brewed cup of coffee, glass of wine, or a homemade pastry whenever suits your fancy. Food and drink don’t like to be put in boxes any more than people do.
